What are aluminium die castings used for?

Published: 2 November 20262 min read

Control equipment housings, industrial machine components, fittings and support elements: aluminium die castings play an important role in a wide range of equipment. They can be especially useful where dimensional accuracy, low weight and cost-effective series production are all important.

In aluminium die casting, molten aluminium alloy is injected into a die under high pressure. The process can produce complex, thin-walled components and combine several structural functions in a single casting. Surfaces, holes and threads with tighter tolerances can be brought to their final dimensions through additional machining, where required.

Building services and building automation are among the application areas for aluminium castings. For components used in control equipment, fittings and housings, precise fit is essential, alongside ease of assembly and reliable operation. The design of the casting must therefore suit both its installation environment and the technical requirements of the equipment.

Precision components, housings and structural elements can be made from aluminium for industrial automation and pneumatics. Complex geometry, repeatable dimensions and accurate connection surfaces can all be important. In machinery and equipment manufacturing, aluminium die castings can be used for machine housings, covers, brackets and other functional components. The process also offers possibilities in the automotive industry, energy and other industrial sectors, depending on the requirements of each component.

When choosing the right manufacturing solution, the shape is only one consideration. The component’s material, loading, surface requirements and planned production volume also matter. For this reason, aluminium casting production is best considered as a whole from the technical discussion stage, including casting, machining and quality inspection.

The way a supplier works with its customers also matters to procurement teams and technical specialists. Order quantities may change, a component drawing may be revised, or production may need to follow a new schedule. In these situations, it is important to be able to discuss the options, conditions and consequences of any changes directly with the manufacturing partner.

At Metalconstruct’s aluminium foundry in Sirok, we build on direct communication and flexible collaboration. As a smaller foundry, we value understanding our partners’ technical and production requirements so that we can look for practical solutions that meet them. We consider how a component will be installed, what function it will perform and how it fits into our partner’s manufacturing processes.

Drawing on our experience and technical capabilities, we are open to exploring new industrial applications and partnerships. Find out more about Metalconstruct’s Sirok facility and manufacturing capabilities on our foundry page.
